These are excited times for me!!!Just Got Home with Violet Aug 24 2017

On my way home from going to Missouri for the total, solar eclipse, I bought my 1996 Aerolite 25′ travel trailer, aka VIOLET, in the Memphis area off of craigslist!! (after much research and avoiding a couple of scams)

She’s kinda old but in great shape for an older gal. We have been doing a few things to get her ready for camping. My husband, as I’ve said many times, can fix anything. And, even though this camper is kinda “my thing”, he has really stepped in to help like he always does. He is very special! For one big thing, he doesn’t discourage me from following a dream.

We have traveled a lot over our 24 years together before and after we got our Class C motorhome. We’ve been  all over the lower 48 together, as well as Hawaii, Jamaica, and Canada. During our married life, my youngest daughter and I have been to Europe twice. When hubby and I went through Teton, Yellowstone, Glacier and between, on our way to Seattle and British Columbia, we traveled in our motorhome. It is very comfortable, but their were two things we didn’t care for: 1) the terrible gas mileage and 2) not wanting to tow a vehicle and, therefore, not having a separate vehicle for errands and site-seeing.

Now we have retired to the country, so hubby is over his desire to travel (except maybe for one more trip to the Lobster Fest in Rockland, Maine), is content staying home with the animals who need care, and does not mind me continuing to travel. I plan to travel with family or girlfriends or solo with my grand-dog Annabelle, who now lives with us.

Annabelle January 31 (3)So, we’ve been getting Violet ready for camping… she needed a battery, a few light bulbs, the light fixtures washed, a license plate mounted, cabinets cleaned out and sanitized, a leak fixed under the kitchen sink, and the kitchen sink unclogged. We tried to open the awning for the first time today, and it looks usable but with some work on the frame connections. And, we ordered a spare tire.

Fitness Challenge

I have accepted the YouTube challenge of Jamie at Enigmatic Nomadics #enchallenge2017 to set my own goals to be reached by November 1, 2017 (2 months).

My goals are:

(1) to lose 20 lbs and

(2) to walk on my treadmill 6X per week.

I started my YouTube channel Molders Mosaic and posted beginning weight and measurements.

I am using http://www.usda.gov/supertracker to count calories and watch out for nutrition. Considering my long-range wt-loss goals, my calorie goal each day is a maximum of 1250 calories. I have been in this challenge two(2) days and have stayed under my max calories and walked on my treadmill each day.

I am looking forward to this journey!! If you want to join a challenge with me check out my YouTube channel and SUBSCRIBE and use #MoldersMosaicFitness to post your progress pictures on Instagram.

Just a couple of weeks ago, a friend sent me an article about Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) from Safflower Oil. I did some research online and decided to try it for muscle tone, appetite suppressing, and wt loss. The first few days, I immediately started gradually losing a little weight without changing my eating. I have found that I am more satisfied with the portion control I am using. It is a helpful strategy for me for wt loss to eat smaller meals more often — 5 or 6 per day — or what we might call 3 meals and 2 or 3 snacks. Feel free to use this link to Amazon to check out CLA, whether or not you are ready to buy it:

P.S. If you see products listed on this site that you want to look at on Amazon, use the links I post. It helps me fund my travel trailer adventures if you make your Amazon purchases through this site. Thank you in advance.

Deer Alerts or Whistles

There are a lot of deer in our part of Mississippi! More often than not, if we drive on any of the roads around our retirement homestead at dusk or after, we’re going to see some deer.

Now the trick is not to hit one with your vehicle. Right?

So how to avoid that very dangerous and often expensive occurrence? Here are some ideas:
(1) Drive defensively…just like you watch for other vehicles who may not be watching for you, watch for deer grazing, walking, or running close to the road.
(2) Buy and install “deer alerts”. Some of the instructions say that they can be installed on the bumper or front fender. We always put ours facing forward on the front fender just behind the lights, so that the front hole of the whistle is facing toward the oncoming wind.

To view deer alerts on Amazon CLICK THIS LINK (I have not figured out how to get the picture here, but this works…lol)

We have them on all our vehicles, and they are less than $10.

Deer Alerts

Caution: They need to be slid out of the holder before putting the vehicle through an automated car wash or they can come off and be lost.

We were riding our Gold-Wing motorcycle on the 2-lane Natchez Trace Parkway in Mississippi several years ago, and a big whitetail deer came running fast out of the brush close to the side of the road. We had no time to even begin to stop, and if she had kept coming, she would have crossed the road right in front of us. It was an accident waiting to happen!! But, she came to a screeching halt at the edge of the road. We didn’t die that night from hitting a deer with our motorcycle, but it’s a wonder we didn’t both die of a heart attack!

Many other times, when we were in a vehicle, deer have been standing close to the edge of the road or in the median of a divided highway and have appeared to just freeze and stare at us.

So, we believe in deer alerts from first-hand experience, and they’ve been on all our vehicles for many years. A logical question then is have we ever hit a deer? The answer is NO…not in all these many years of driving. A deer did run into the front fender of hubby’s truck in the city where he was going less than 35 mph.

The deer alerts need the vehicle to be travelling more than 35 mph to work because air passing through it at that speed or faster makes the whistling noise that the deer hears.

My windshield did get kicked by a deer and shattered once….yes, really! I was on a very narrow country road with bushes and fences very close to the edges of the road, and a big deer was standing in one of these areas on the edge. I slowed down too much (<35 mph) and just before I got to the deer, and when I was almost stopped, the deer tried to cross the road. It was coming left to right, and right before I got stopped, my right front bumper was about to bump the deer's back leg(s) and instead the deer kicked her back feet up into the air and kicked my very large, slanted, Camaro windshield. It shattered but didn't fall out.

So, we believe in them, and, for your convenience, you can buy them if you

Meet Violet — My Adventure Residence On the Road

Meet Violet!! She is named for my Mummy, who loved to picnic, camp, fish, and dove hunt. RIP Violet Christine Laymance Beaty. I am Jerri Lynne Beaty Molder.

Wow! I am so excited to have found her!
And, yes, you can find a great deal on craigslist if you just carefully weed your way through the SCAMMERS! Shame on them!!

Violet is a 25′ Aerolight bumper-pull travel trailer that is EXACTLY what I invisioned. Double bed in the back. Full bathroom. Self-contained except no generator, which is perfect because then I can put a small one in the back of my pickup and it shouldn’t be so LOUD like the Onan is in the Class C motorhome we have, which will be for sale on craigslist shortly. Full kitchen except for oven, which I don’t need, and which I will compensate for with a toaster oven. Frig and Freezer have separate doors — yay — which means it’s a real freezer and bigger and much more functional than what’s in our motorhome!!

The seller showed me how to hook it up to our pickup — already had a hitch and a towing package on the pickup. I slept there in his father and mother-in-law’s yard, and pulled out in the morning Wednesday. It pulled very easily!!

Note: Hubby has pulled a flatbed trailer with either our mini-excavator or tractor which is over 4000lbs for years. Violet is just a little over 4000lbs.

Readers may or may not understand, but I have to say that Violet is an answer to prayer. I asked my Heavenly Father if it was within His will, to please help me find a small enough, short enough, light enough, travel trailer for between $2500-$3000, and He answered that prayer “yes”. His lovingkindness is amazing, and I hope and pray that I will always bring glory to Him. Jesus died for me, and you, and is my Savior and Lord.

Happy Trails!!

First Stop

When on my recent trip to find and witness the total solar eclipse, I had difficulty remembering and finding how to post on this, my blog. LOL It had been awhile!

I managed one post and then couldn’t get this “First Stop” to publish. Oh well, the first stop which was at a rest stop was not very eventful, so we’ll skip that. Suffice it to say, I was excited to be on the road.

Hopefully, now that I’m home in the country, I can briefly recap a little of my trip and then move on to exciting future plans.

Trip to Total Eclipse

9AM FRIDAY, AUG 18, 2017
Good Morning! I am leaving home in Mississippi in search of the total eclipse. I’ll be telling you about my adventures along the way and posting pictures. Hubby is so sweet to “hold down the fort” at our retirement home in the country and take care of our 2 dogs and 3 cats. He encourages my adventures and prefers to be at home…a perfect match!
